Hi there Geeky Crafters!
It always seems like forever between posts on my blog and I’m
sorry for that. I am hoping to be able
to get creative and update better as the summer wears on before getting (hopefully!)
into school next fall. I’ve been doing a
little craft work in the last month, and I noticed that while I shared my
calendar on my facebook – I didn’t add it to the blog pictures, so expect a
post for that. But lately, I’ve been in
a VERY geeky obsessive mood and my focus has been on Doctor Who – now, I know I’ve
talked a little bit about the Doctor before, but lately, it almost seems like
all I can think of. I know there are
lots of sources for Whovian information on the net, but the basic premise is
this:
A space
alien called a Time Lord from a planet called Gallifrey, simply known as The
Doctor, travels through time and space getting into all kinds of mischief in
his ship, the TARDIS. Currently, the
TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension in Space) looks like a blue 1960’s British
police box. It hasn’t always looked this
way, but currently it likes looking that way. (That’s really all you know to
know about why, although the series goes into more depth.) The Doctor has a
serious affection for humans, and can regenerate when he is dying or near
death. When we pick up in 2005 with the re-launch
of the series, he has regenerated into his 9th form, played by Chris
Eccleston of Gone in 60 Seconds fame. He
picks up a quirky and beautiful companion, Rose, and they’re off for adventure.
Fans of the previous show will remember Tom Baker’s scarf, which is a Who
staple and will know that Rose is not the first companion. There are plenty of villains, including the
return of the Cybermen and the Daleks and lots of jokes and always lots of
running. I recommend starting with
Series 1 from 2005 (previous shows from the 60s to the 80s were part of
Seasons, not Series) and working your way through the Doctors from there. There’s enough information to catch you up on
the important bits from past lives and you’ll get a feel for the
characters. Eccleston only sticks around
for Series one and his replacement, David Tennant (known in the US from the
recent Fright Night remake), as 10, is so funny and geeky that you can’t help
but fall in love with him as the Doctor.
It’s honestly heartbreakingly simple in his complexity.
I’ve shared my cutting files for the Doctor’s Gallifrean
name and the logo from the revamp of the series (I’m not absolute that this
what they’re using for Matt Smith’s doctor, I’m still rewatching episodes) but
I thought I’d share what I did with them.
I’ve also done two cards with one of 10’s catchphrases, because it’s such
a fun and geeky word.
The next pictures I’ve got for you are the other vinyl work
I did for my kitchen aid mixer. I have
one in Empire Red, and it was looking awfully lonely with no decorations, so I
put some of my favorite things on there:
a tinkerbell and a cupcake. The
vinyl was fairly easy to put on in both occasions. I used Glad Press & Seal as the transfer
paper cause I’m too cheap to go buy the transfer paper and I already had the
Press & Seal on hand.
So what do you guys think?
I really liked cutting the vinyl and didn’t have much difficulty at
all. I can’t wait to try some more
designs for maybe my phone or something else in my apartment!
